Anyone who has children will know that life after children is somewhat different to life before. I have some distant memory that life was a social flurry of events, dinners out and parties, where my only decision was what to wear. When I first had my twin girls, now three, I knew things would have to change but expected that 'mummy friends' were a given and, by popping along to some baby groups, my new support network would just click into place. Although I had a few friends with children, they were mostly different ages and I realised it wasn't going to be as easy as I first assumed. After some time, I basically had to infiltrate an established group of friends by inviting myself along for coffee.... and (phew) it worked :)
Yesterday I stopped by Brentwood Avenue in Jesmond for some lunch and a browse in the shops. Due to the tail end of hurricane Gonzalo it was a very windy experience and we practically ran from shop to shop to shelter from the gusts. For those who subscribe to My Little Box, I nearly lost my DVF scarf in the wind as it blew off me and I had to chase it down the street!
Brentwood Avenue is a small row of shops and businesses in West Jesmond, and is my first destination if I need to get a wedding, christening or birthday gift due to the gorgeous little gift shops, cook shop and delis.
I've wanted to revisit this little gem for quite a while now. Now that I am self employed and free from the constraints of an employer I love that I am able to pop in somewhere while it is peaceful, quiet and relaxing. This morning I was waiting to pick something up from the printers and my girls were at nursery so I grabbed the chance to stroll along the Quayside and treat myself to a yummy breakfast. I didn't bank on how chilly it would be so breakfast kind of trumped the stroll ;)
Quay Ingredient is a tiny little cafe right under the Tyne Bridge. It just has five tables and two low sofa tables so on a Saturday or Sunday it can be hard to squeeze in. There is a nice atmosphere of accommodating your fellow diners, however, and people seem happy to move around so everyone can fit.

One new Topshop Jacket, four years of marriage celebrated, five drinks and nine delicious courses...
Ususally for our wedding anniversary we try to steal a night away (hopefully to Rockcliffe Hall!) but this year, with holidays and house moves, we decided to stay closer to home. After a gorgeous Kenny Atkinson meal at Rockliffe we couldn't wait to try House of Tides. I had been feeling ill for a few days but was well enough to taste my food again!
Welcome to the blog! I'm Rachael; Belfast born but resident of the gorgeous Newcastle upon Tyne. I'd love to share with you some of the food, design and culture this city has to offer, and some of the things I love in life. Enjoy!
